Last week, my mom saw my blog for the first time. Of course, being my mom, she loved it, and sent me a fantastic e-mail letting me know. Then, another friend sent me an e-mail… and another…

And I realized, the majority of my readers are probably just like me. We are the “newbies” in the world of blogging. Even a few weeks ago, I would get butterflies before leaving a comment. To be honest, I wasn’t even sure how.

Fortunately, I discovered how powerful the comment can be. Blogging is a collaborative effort. It isn’t just the blogger’s initial thoughts that are important, but how the blogosphere interacts with the content. This discourse is what makes a blog addictive to read and to follow.

Luckily, to comment, is pretty simple task.

At the bottom of a post, you’ll see a list of tags.

At the end, it may say something like: 1 Comment, 5 Comments, or maybe No Comments. Click where it says “Comments” . A screen will pop up that will ask you for your name and e-mail. Type those in and you’re ready to go!

Now that I’ve started to read and make comments on other blogs, I see there are others that are thinking about the same things I do. At Drape’s Takes, he calls to all of us to learn the art of blogging by immersion. We may be nervous and have butterflies in our bellies, but by jumping in, we’re on our way!

So, whether it’s on Thinkin’ Thoughts or another blog, please join a conversation and enjoy the commeradie that may emerge. Click the Comment!

Excellent point. I should have probably done something similar for mine a while ago.

I now get quite a bit more good conversation on my blog than just a short while back. However, I still get e-mails like you mentioned.

There are times when sending an e-mail message to the author is appropriate. But really, I still get private messages that sound much more like a public comment that would help others see a different nuance to an issue, etc.

I thank my wife Erin very much for sending private little messages about my missteps in spelling, etc., so I can correct those in private.

But I have also asked an e-mail responder if they would mind adding to the comment thread because of something very potentially valuable in what they said.

ps- And wow… look at your little CLustrMap go! How fun is that?

    Hi Terri,
The next update on your cluster map should include a red dot from Victoria, Australia – that’s me! I found your blog mentioned on classroom 2.0 (you can thank your friend nashworld for that). I am interested in your Ecotigers ning, if you are taking guests. I am an Environmental Science teacher (also Year 7 and 9 maths and science).
I have started an On-line Science Fair wiki which is going quite well, although we finish our school year in about 5 weeks.
    Britt Gow.

Thanks for posting a comment, Britt. We’d love to have you join our Ecotigers website! I’ve sent a comment to your blog as well. ( I couldn’t find an e-mail)–I’m still new at this thing.
